About Fernhill
An independently owned small animal practice in Shrewsbury, publishing its own fees since 2009.
Independent, and it shows in the price list
“Publishing our fees is only possible because nobody above us sets them. That is most of what independence actually buys a client.”
Fernhill has been independently owned since 2009. Five RCVS-registered vets, three nurses, and about four thousand registered animals across Shrewsbury and the villages around it. Dogs, cats and small mammals only — we refer exotics and equine work rather than attempting it.
A great deal of the profession has consolidated into corporate groups over the last decade, and with that came national price lists and targets. We are not against scale as such, but it is the reason we can publish our fee guide on a public page and tell you plainly that our out-of-hours service is provided by somebody else two miles away.
Three commitments
All three cost us something, which is how you know we mean them.
You get the price before we proceed
Beyond the consultation, nothing happens without an estimate. If the picture changes mid-procedure we ring you and ask, rather than continuing and presenting a larger bill.
We say what we cannot do
No exotics, no equine, and complex referral cases go to specialists. Attempting work we are not equipped for would be worse for your animal than a referral.
There is nearly always another option
If cost is a problem, tell us. There is usually more than one clinically reasonable approach and we would far rather discuss them than have you decline treatment silently.
The vets
All five are on the RCVS register, which you can check publicly.
